'I Know Trump's Type': Kamala Harris Lashes Out At Ex-US President In Her First Poll Campaign Speech

Kamala Harris delivered her first speech to campaign workers after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race for the White House and endorsed her for the top post.

US News: United States Vice President Kamala Harris began her election campaign Monday with a scathing attack on former President Donald Trump. Harris, who delivered her first speech to campaign workers after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race for the White House on Sunday and endorsed her for the top post, referred to her previous role as California's chief prosecutor and slammed Trump. Harris said that she took on "perpetrators of all kinds."

"Predators who abused women. Fraudsters who ripped off consumers. Cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain. So hear me when I say I know Donald Trump's type," the US Vice President said during her address, as quoted by news agency AFP. Speaking to campaign workers at campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, she said, "We are going to win in November".

During her speech, Harris also pledged to focus on the issue of abortion, after former President Trump praised the Supreme Court's 2022 verdict to overturn the long-held federal right to the procedure.

Harris hailed Biden and said, "It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve as vice president to President Joe Biden. Joe's legacy of accomplishment is unmatched in modern history."

Here Are Top Updates

  • Addressing her campaign staffers on Monday, Harris (59) alleged that Trump's Project 2025 would "weaken the middle class and bring us backward to the failed trickle-down policies that gave huge tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations and made working families pay for the cost".
  • Lashing out at her Republican rival Trump, Harris said, "Donald Trump wants to take our country backward to a time before many of our fellow Americans had full freedoms and rights. But we believe in a brighter future that makes room for all Americans. We believe in a future where every person has the opportunity not just to get by, but to get ahead," as quoted by PTI.
  • "We believe in a future where no child has to grow up in poverty, where every person can buy a home, start a family, and build wealth, and where every person has access to paid family leave and affordable child care. That's the future we see," the US Vice President said.
  • Kamala Harris' campaign has raised USD 81 million in the first 24-hour period since incumbent President Biden stepped aside from the presidential race and endorsed his deputy as the Democratic Party's new nominee.
  • Kevin Munoz, the spokesperson for Harris' campaign, said, "There is a groundswell behind Kamala Harris, and Donald Trump is terrified because he knows his divisive and unpopular agenda can't stand up to the vice president's record and vision for the American people," as quoted by news agency PTI.
  • "Team Harris raised USD 81 million in its first 24 hours, adding to the near quarter-of-a-billion dollar war chest already amassed this election cycle. This haul reflects money raised across the campaign, Democratic National Committee and joint fundraising committees," a media release said.
  • Endorsement from Biden for the presidential polls has almost sealed the deal for Harris' position as the presidential nominee of her party, but she still needs to get elected by the party's delegates during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago from August 19–22.
  • Following the US President's decision, Harris, who has been serving as the US' first female, first Black, and first South Asian vice president since 2021, immediately secured the endorsement of former president Bill Clinton, thus making it a bit easier for her to win the delegate battle during the party convention.
  • Joe Biden's decision to nominate Harris came weeks after consistent pressure from fellow Democrats after his presidential debate performance against Donald Trump last month.
