Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Thwarts Pakistan’s Bid To Rake Kashmir Issue At UNICEF Event In Sri Lanka
As the Pakistani delegates tried to rake up rights issues in Kashmir at the event, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi slammed the neighbouring country's record on rights issues of minorities.
New Delhi:Days after suffering embarrassment at the hands of India while raising Kashmir issue in Maldives, Pakistan again tried to internationalise the issue at a UNICEF event in Sri Lanka, only to receive flak by India again.
The Parliamentary delegation from India comprising of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal thwarted the country’s attempt to raise the Kashmir issue at UNICEF South Asian Parliamentarian Conference on Children Rights Convention in Colombo, and asserted that it was India’s internal matter.
As the Pakistani delegates tried to rake up rights issues in Kashmir at the event, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi slammed the neighbouring country's record on rights issues of minorities.
Gogoi reminded the Pakistani delegation of their country's internal situation related to human rights, the plight of minorities and legislations such as the "blasphemy law".
In a video footage of the event, Both Gogoi and Jaiswal are seen blasting the Pakistani representative together.
Later, in a statement the Congress MP said that at a child rights conference organised by the UNICEF, the Pakistani delegation tried to internationalise the matter of Jammu and Kashmir.
“At UNICEF South Asian Parliamentarian Conference on Children Right’s Convention in Colombo, the delegation from Pakistan raised the situation of Jammu and Kashmir after our presentation finished. I reaffirmed the CWC resolution that no foreign interference will be allowed,” he said in his tweet.
“Continuing, I reminded the Pakistani delegation of their internal situation related to human rights, plight of minorities and legislation such as the blasphemy law. Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter and as stakeholders in Indian democracy, Congress is aware of its duty, he tweeted.
Reminding Pakistan that "Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter and as stakeholders in Indian democracy", @GauravGogoiAsm said Pakistan has own things to deal on such as "human rights, the plight of minorities and legislation such as the blasphemy law." https://t.co/1wnXcK7FkI

This comes after the Indian delegation hit out at Pakistani representatives saying Islamabad should put an end to all state support to terrorism, which is the "biggest threat" to humanity, during the summit held in the Maldivian Parliament, when the latter tried to raise Kashmir issue. A day later, in a snub to Pakistan, the Male Declaration adopted by the leaders at the South Asian Speakers' Summit in the Maldives "unanimously" felt that Kashmir was an "internal matter" of India and overlooked all assertions made by Islamabad on the issue.1st reax from MP @GauravGogoiAsm to Pak delegation's attempt to raise #Kashmir at the @UNICEF conf in Colombo.
