Viral Sach: Was PM Modi's demonetisation move leaked before official announcement?

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday alleged that the BJP's "friends" knew about the demonetisation in advance. However, BJP President Amit Shah refuted such allegations, saying the information was limited to some constitutional and administrative entities. Amid spar between the BJP and the opposition parties over demonetisation, two images of news reports have gone viral on the social media with a claim that the details about the demonetising exercise were there in the media even before Modi's announcement. It is claimed a Gujarati newspaper had reported about new Rs 2000 denomination currency note about six months ago. While a Hindi Daily, Dainik Jagran, had covered it on 27th October. Government will soon demonetise Rs. 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes and introduce new Rs. 2000 currency notes, the Gujarati newspaper had reported. Questions are now being raised if the information about demonetisation was leaked before the official announcement? ABP News, while investigating the matter to determine whether the information was leaked or nor not, found that the Gujarati newspaper had published the currency report as a prank on April Fool's day. Akila, the Gujarati news paper, said that the currency report was intended to be a prank. "It is just a coincidence that the government took such a decision," it said. The story was meant to "amuse" the readers on April 1 and it was not a genuine news report. Regarding Dainik Jagran's report, we contacted the Hindi Daily and discovered that the newspaper published the currency report according to its sources.
