Rahul Gandhi To Visit Wayanad On August 12 For First Time After Getting MP Status Back
Rahul Gandhi will embark on a two-day visit to his constituency in Wayanad, Kerala, on August 12. This will be his first visit to his constituency after returning to Lok Sabha.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit his constituency Wayanad in Kerala on August 12 and 13. This is his first visit after he was reinstated as Lok Sabha MP. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said: "The people of Wayanad are elated that democracy has won, their voice has returned to Parliament! Rahulji is not just an MP but a member of their family!"
Rahul Gandhi got back his Lok Sabha membership on Monday after the Supreme Court ordered a stay on his conviction in the 2019 Modi 'surname' defamation case last week. In the course of the hearing, a trio of judges including Justices B R Gavai, P S Narasimha, and Sanjay Kumar emphasized that the regulations outlined in the Representation of People Act were invoked exclusively because of the two-year maximum sentence that was meted out to Gandhi. The bench pointed out that if the sentence had been even a single day shorter, the provisions of the Act would not have come into effect. This distinction holds true, especially for instances of non-cognisable, bailable, and compoundable offences.

The three-judge bench noted, "The trial court judge was expected, at the very least, to provide reasons for imposing the maximum sentence. Although the appellate court and high court have dedicated extensive pages to rejecting the stay on conviction, these considerations were not addressed in their orders."
Rahul Gandhi started attending Parliament's monsoon session on Monday. He was expected to move the no-confidence motion against the government in Lok Sabha on Tuesday. However, the motion was moved by Congress MP from Assam Gaurav Gogoi. Sources said that he is likely to speak on Thursday before the Prime Minister replies to the debate.
