Opposition Objects To Sansad TV Ticker Listing Govt's Achievements During No-Trust Vote Debate
The Sansad TV ran tickers listing the government's achievements during the no-confidence motion debate. The Opposition has objected to this.
The Opposition on Tuesday raised objections to the government-run Sansad TV running tickers about the BJP-led Centre's achievements during the debate on the no-confidence motion. The Opposition asked how can the ticker of the government's achievements be run during such an important debate.
Taking cognisance of the complaint, Speaker Om Birla said: "The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha together comprise the Sansad TV. Earlier, they would be shown separately. But since you have brought the matter [of the tickers] to my notice, I shall look into it... I have asked the relevant team to take the necessary action. It will be stopped in a few moments." As the Opposition raised slogans against the tickers, Speaker Om Birla said: "I don't have the button to stop the ticker."
Parliamentary Affairs Minister reacted to the complaint and said: "These types of tickers always run on the Sansad TV during the Parliament's proceedings. But Gaurav Gogoi's speech was telecast live. Why they are so scared, I do not understand." "The Opposition should not have such type of insecurity," he added.
Congress Leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury alleged that this was a planned move. "They [government] thought Rahul Gandhi would move the motion on no confidence. This is why they scheduled such a ticker. This was only to belittle him. Gaurav Gogoi's speech was a googly for them." Speaker Birla, however, dismissed the allegation.
The ticker was soon stopped and Parliament's proceedings resumed with BJP MP Nishikant Dubey speaking against the no-confidence motion. Before the disruption, the Congress MP moved the no-confidence motion against the government regarding the Manipur violence. He demanded PM Narendra Modi's statement on the issue.
