Rahul Gandhi Urges People Not To Mock Smriti Irani, Says 'Humiliating And Insulting People Is Sign Of Weakness'

Rahul Gandhi urged supporters to refrain from derogatory language and insults towards Smriti Irani, emphasising that winning and losing are part of life.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi requested his supporters on Friday to avoid taunting and using derogatory statements against former Union minister Smriti Irani. In a post on the social media handle X, the opposition leader mentioned that winning and losing is the party of life.

"Winning and losing happen in life. I urge everyone to refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty towards Smt. Smriti Irani or any other leader for that matter."

On humiliating and insulting, he added that it is a sign of weakness, not strength. "Humiliating and insulting people is a sign of weakness, not strength," he further wrote.

This post comes as some people took swipes and mocked Smriti Irani as she vacated her official bungalow at 28 Tughlak Crescent in Lutyens' Delhi, weeks after her poll defeat from Amethi Lok Sabha seat.

In the general election results announced on June 4, Irani was defeated by the Congress worker and first-time candidate Kishori Lal Sharma from the Amethi constituency of Uttar Pradesh with a margin of 1.6 lakh votes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Smriti Irani was called a giant slayer after she defeated Rahul Gandhi from the same constituency by a margin of over 55,000 votes.

After her loss at the Lok Sabha election in June, she thanked those who supported her. During a media conference, Irani said, “I express my gratitude to all the BJP party workers and supporters, those who have worked in the service of the constituency and the party with utmost dedication and fidelity…Today, I am grateful to PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath that their governments have completed the pending works of 30 years in just 5 years. I congratulate those who win. I will continue to be in the service of the people of Amethi.”
