Ahead Of Kartarpur Inauguration, PM Modi Pays Obeisance At Ber Sahib Gurudwara In Sultanpur Lodhi

Modi was received by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Union minister Harsimrat Badal.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid obeisance at the highly revered shrine Gurdwara Ber Sahib, ahead of inaugurating the historic Kartarpur Corridor. Donning a scarf, PM Modi spent some time at the shrine located along the banks of the holy Bein, which has a great significance as it is associated with the life events of Guru Nanak Dev. Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th 'Prakash Purb' (birth anniversary) falls on November 12, for the celebration of which, the historic decision of Kartarpur Corridor was taken. Modi was received by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Union minister Harsimrat Badal. The Prime Minister flew into Sultanpur Lodhi in a helicopter from the Amritsar airport. The Shriomani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which has control over Sikh religious affairs, manages gurdwaras (Sikh temples) in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, including the holiest of Sikh shrines Harmandir Sahib, popularly known as Golden Temple in Amritsar, presented a 'siropa' (robe of honour) to Modi. Watch here:  Prime Minister Modi will later in the day flag off the first batch of over 500 Indian pilgrims that will travel to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Narowal district of Pakistan's Punjab province through the Kartarpur corridor, which is being thrown open days ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev on November 12. Pakistan PM Imran Khan will inaugurate the corridor on the Pakistani side and receive the Indian Sikh pilgrims including former prime minister Manmohan Singh.
