'Police Lives Matter': Kin Of Injured Delhi Police Personnel Stage Protest At Shahidi Park, Demand Action Against Miscreants

Families of Delhi police personnel who were injured in tractor rally violence on Republic day, have staged a sit-in demonstration at Shahidi Park demanding justice for the injured officers.

New Delhi: Families of Delhi police personnel who were injured in tractor rally violence on Republic day, have staged a sit-in demonstration at Shahidi Park demanding justice for the injured officers.

Family members of Delhi police personnel along with Retired and current officers of Delhi Police are demonstrating at Shahidi Park in protest against the violence that occurred on R-day.

Speaking about the attack he faced at Red Fort, Head Constable Ashok Kumar told news agency ANI, "I was on duty at Red Fort. I was deployed at the gate of the Fort. We were bringing out the crowd that had entered and hoisted the flag when suddenly we were attacked. They had sticks and swords with them. I received injuries on my head and legs".

Speaking to ABP News, Head Constable Sunita who was posted at Mukarba Chowk said: "They were asked to follow a route, they did not follow the order but cornered the police and defamed them in a manner that cannot be tolerated. Police also have families, they have children. They wanted them to orphaned. They are bringing a bad name to the police".

As Delhi Police's probe is underway, the family members of the injured personnel are demanding justice for them, asking that those who indulged in violence be identified and duly punished.

A protesting police personnel said: "We also want protection. We are in the police force that doesn't mean we can be attacked. We were on duty and unarmed... But people who were a part of that rally, some of them cannot really be called farmers. They were miscreants".

Certain sections also want the farmers' protest to end with agitators leaving borders of the national capital, the major protest sites have been Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur.

In the aftermath of R-day chaos, the tension at these protest sites escalated with the order to vacate the Ghazipur protest site - leading up to BKU spokesperson Rakesh Tikait breaking down in front of the media, and then violence erupted at the Singhu border on Friday when people claiming to be locals vandalised the place, raising slogans and lathis against the agitators there.

While opposition leaders continue to extend support to farmers, Union minister Prakash Javdekar stated that the government never said the doors of negotiation are closed.

At the same time, Home Minister Amit Shah had met injured police officers and interacted with them on Wednesday, Delhi police issued notices and assured that miscreants will face legal action over the "breach of trust".
