School Holiday Feb 12: Multiple states declared a school holiday on February 12 on the occasion of Ravidas Jayanti. The states that have announced the holiday are Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. 

All government offices, schools, autonomous bodies, and public sector undertakings in these states will remain closed.

In Delhi, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena issued an official circular that states that the restricted holiday for Guru Ravidas Jayanti, which was initially scheduled for November 2024, has now been upgraded to a full public holiday. A similar notification was issued by the Uttar Pradesh government.

Significance Of Ravidas Jayanti

Guru Ravidas Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas, a 15th-century saint and poet associated with the Bhakti movement. The birth anniversary of the revered saint is celebrated on February 12. Also known as Raidas, Rohidas, or Ruhidas, Guru Ravidas was a spiritual leader and reformer of the Bhakti Movement.

His teachings highlighted the importance of equality, unity, and spiritual connection with God, inspiring countless people and leaving a lasting impact on India's spiritual and social traditions. Celebrations of Guru Ravidas Jayanti include processions and devotional singing.

President Murmu Wishes On Ravidas Jayanti

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday greeted citizens on the eve of the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas.

"Guru Ravidasji was a great Indian saint who gave the message of unity and brotherhood to all through his writings. His soulful poetry transcends the barriers of caste and religion and motivates entire humanity. The life of Sant Ravidasji is a source of inspiration for all sections of society," she said.
