New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated the historic Motihari-Amlekhganj (Nepal) petroleum pipe line, which is the first ever cross border petroleum pipeline in South Asia, with Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli via video conferencing on Tuesday. Modi called the project "a symbol of our bilateral relations". He reiterated that it will help to enhance security of the region and "substantially cut down on transit costs". “It is a matter of great satisfaction that the first cross-border petroleum pipeline of South Asia has been completed in record time. It was ready in half the time than expected,” he said. Speaking on the occasion, Modi also recalled the earthquake of 2015 that devastated Nepal. And expressed happiness at the fact how the Himalayan nation has moved on ever since. “After the devastating earthquake in 2015 when Nepal took up the reconstruction, India extended its hand for cooperation as a neighbour and a close friend. I am happy that due to our joint cooperation houses have been built again in Gorkha and Nuwakot districts of Nepal,” he said. He also reaffirmed India's commitment to help Nepal for developmental works according to its own priorities. (inputs from agencies)
