Nitish Kumar Will Remain Bihar CM If He Joins Mahagathbandhan, Says Congress

Congress has expressed that Nitish Kumar will remain as Bihar Chief Minister if he plans to join the 'Mahagathbandhan'.

Bihar Political Churn: A day after the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) said that it will “embrace” Janata Dal (United) if it broke ranks with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress has now expressed that Nitish Kumar will remain as Bihar Chief Minister if he plans to join the 'Mahagathbandhan'.

"If Nitish Kumar comes, we'll welcome him. If he comes we will support him. A meeting of Mahagathbandhan is being held. We should take a decision to support (him) by considering Nitish Kumar as the CM but we'll be able to tell you only after the meeting," Congress legislature party leader Ajit Sharma told news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, all the major parties including RJD, JD(U), Congres, BJP and HAM in Bihar convened a meeting with their leaders on Tuesday.

JD(U) MPs and MLAs met at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's residence, while Tejashwi Yadav convened a meeting of RJD legislators at Rabri Devi's Circular Road bungalow.

The BJP is also holding a meeting at Deputy Chief Minister Tarkishor Prasad’s residence and among those present there include the party’s state unit president Sanjay Jaiswal.

Tensions in Bihar political circuit surfaced following the resignation of former union minister RCP Singh from JD(U). The bureaucrat-turned politician had remained JD(U) chief for one-and-a-half years and had earlier quit the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) to join the Nitish Kumar-led party.

His resignation triggered fear among the junior ally of the BJP in Bihar, as a Maharashtra-like political situation could emerge as Uddhav Thackeray not only lost his MLAs and the government but is also struggling to keep the party, Shiv Sena, with him.
