Ministry of Health has decided to undertake a thorough assessment of the robustness of processes of the NEET-PG entrance exam, conducted by the National Board of Examination for medical students.

The Union Health Ministry on Saturday announced that the NEET-PG Entrance Examination, scheduled to be held on June 23, has been postponed, as a precautionary measure in the wake of recent allegations on the integrity of certain competitive exams.

The fresh date of this examination will be notified at the earliest, the ministry said.

"Taking into consideration, the recent incidents of allegations regarding the integrity of certain competitive examinations, Ministry of Health has decided to undertake a thorough assessment of the robustness of processes of NEET-PG Entrance Examination, conducted by National Board of Examination for medical students. It has accordingly been decided, as a precautionary measure to postpone the NEET-PG Entrance Examination, scheduled to be held tomorrow i.e. 23rd June, 2024," a government statement said.

"Fresh date of this examination will be notified at the earliest. Ministry of Health sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused to the students. This decision has been taken in the best interests of the students and to maintain the sanctity of examination process," the statement added.

Earlier on Friday, the National Board of Examinations had cautioned the applicants against fraudsters on social media befooling NEET-PG aspirants in the name of providing questions for a considerable sum of money.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh hit out at the government for the cancellation of the exam.

"No day is complete without news of cancellation of an exam because of the total incompetence of the non- biological PM and the people around him. The latest exam to be put off is NEET-PG, which was scheduled to be held tomorrow," Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X.

Meanwhile, the Centre on Saturday shunted out NTA Director General Subodh Singh and set up a seven-member panel headed by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan to review the agency's functioning and recommend exam reforms.

The move comes a day after the June edition of the Joint Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and UGC-NET was postponed.
