New Delhi: The main accomplice of Uttar Pradesh notorious gangster Vikas Dubey, named Daya Shankar Agnihotri, who was also involved in the killing of the eight cops in Kanpur, was arrested after a brief encounter on Sunday morning. How was Daya Shankar Agnihotri arrested?
Daya Shankar Agnihotri , is a key member of the Vikas Dubey gang, was arrested in a pre-dawn encounter around 4.40 a.m. in Kalyanpur area. "He tried to escape and the police team shot at his leg. He has been arrested," police officials said. A country made firearm and cartridges have been recovered from his possession.
In the early hours of Sunday, police got a tip-off and tried to stop Agnihotri on the Kalyanpur-Shivli road when he opened fire on them. While no police personnel was hurt, Agnihotri got bullet injuries on his leg in retaliatory firing.

He will be quizzed by various agencies probing the Friday bloodbath incident where members of Vikas Dubey gang opened fire at police and killed eight of them. Police believe that he could provide vital clues in the case.

Agnihotri who was accused in the firing incident on the policemen, was carrying a cash reward of Rs 25,000.
Agnihotri was admitted to the Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) hospital and police recovered a country-made pistol and two cartridges from his possession, said Superintendent of Police (west) Anil Kumar.
What has he revealed so far?
He told reporters that Dubey had got a call from someone in the police department informing him about his imminent arrest, and after that he called his men for a face-to-face confrontation with the police.
'Vikas Dubey got a call from the police station. After which he called about 25-30 people. He fired shots at police personnel. I was locked inside the house at the time of the encounter, so I saw nothing," he said.
Dubey remains at large:
After 48 hours since gangster Vikas Dubey went missing after the shootout, the state police still has no clue about his whereabouts. All the phones of Vikas, his associates and relatives have been put on surveillance but the gangster has not used any communication tool so far.
SO Vinay Tiwari suspended:
It should be noted that on Saturday, almost 36 hours after killing of 8 cops in Kanpur, the Uttar Pradesh Police had suspended Station Officer (SO) at Chaubepur Police station Vinay Tiwari on the suspicion of tipping off criminals during the raid to arrest Vikas Dubey.
Vikas Dubey's house razed, arms recovered:
Apart from this, UP Police also razed the house of Vikas Dubey in Bithoor's Dikru village on Saturday. Police said they had information that Dubey had hidden a lot of arms and ammunition in a bunker. There was also information about him hiding arms and ammunition in the walls of the house. The walls were broken in order to search for the weapons. When the walls were broken, the roof also collapsed. Large amount of ammunition was recovered in the digging.
Cash reward on Dubey increased:
The cash reward on Vikas Dubey has been increased to Rs 1 lakh from Rs 25,000 .
What happened on Thursday night?
Eight police personnel, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were gunned down in a village near Kanpur city by the henchmen of Dubey, who lost two of them in a firefight later. The raid was carried out at 1 am on the intervening night of July 2-3 in Bithoor area in Chaubepur.
Seven others, including a civilian, were injured in the attack that took place in the dead of night on Thursday. Later, police sealed the entire area and began a combing operation, which led to another encounter with Dubey's men in Nivada village in which two of them were killed.
The eight men killed in the line of duty, mostly in their 20s and 30s, included Deputy Superintendent of Police Devendra Mishra (54).
