Crucial Hearing on Electoral Bonds Scheme to Commence at Supreme Court
A five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court is set to commence a significant hearing from Tuesday, addressing a batch of pleas challenging the validity of the electoral bonds scheme, which is employed for funding political parties. The electoral bonds scheme was introduced by the government on January 2, 2018, as an alternative to cash donations made to political parties, with the goal of enhancing transparency in political funding.

The bench, consisting of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices Sanjiv Khanna, B R Gavai, J B Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra, will consider four pleas, including those filed by Congress leader Jaya Thakur and the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
