Delhi: 10-Year-Old Boy Sodomised By Friends In Seelampur Dies In Hospital

A 10-year old boy who was allegedly sodomised and assaulted by three minors in Delhi’s Seelampur area succumbed to injuries at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital (LNJP) on Saturday. After being admitted to the hospital on September 22, the victim had been fighting to survive the assault. All the children involved in the case are between 10 and 12 years of age and belong to the same community.

After an FIR was registered against all the three accused, action has been taken by the police under the Juvenile Justice Act.
According to the North East District Police, on the afternoon of September 22, at 3:10 pm, the Seelampur police station received information from the LNJP hospital that a 10-year-old child had been brought to the hospital after being physically assaulted. The police reached the hospital immediately and tried to speak to the family members of the victims, who initially refrained from recording the statement.
Later, on September 24, the victims mother was counselled after which she told the police that her son was sexually assaulted on September 18.
During the investigation, Police found that all three accused were known to the victim and were their nighbours living in "jhuggis" of New Seelampur area in Delhi.
Based on the statement of victim's mother, the police registered a case under sections 377, 34 and 6 of the POCSO Act of the IPC.
Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal had issued a notice to the Delhi Police and asked for a report. After getting information about the death of the child, she tweeted and wrote that "this 12-year-old child is no longer with us. The child suffered a lot and fought till his last breath. His killers must be punished severely!"
