Abhishek Banerjee Set to Appear Before ED
Abhishek Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary, is expected to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on September 13, according to a well-informed source within the party. This development could result in his absence from the inaugural meeting of the opposition coordination committee known as 'INDIA,' scheduled to take place in the national capital on the same day. The source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, informed PTI about the potential clash in Abhishek Banerjee's commitments.
If he indeed appears before the ED, Abhishek Banerjee is set to present himself to ED officials at their city office on September 13. I.N.D.I.A. Coordination Committee to Discuss Seat Sharing and Election Strategy
The first meeting of the Coordination Committee for the opposition alliance 'INDIA' will take place on Wednesday, September 13. The 14-member panel, considered pivotal for opposition unity, will convene at the residence of NCP leader Sharad Pawar in the evening. The meeting's agenda includes negotiations on a seat-sharing formula and the formulation of a comprehensive campaign strategy ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Sources indicate that leaders from various opposition parties have called for swift progress in devising a seat-sharing formula to ensure the presentation of joint opposition candidates against BJP contenders in Lok Sabha constituencies. Nonetheless, it is recognized that the parties must overcome their individual interests and egos to reach a consensus on such a formula. Although specific criteria for seat allocation remain undecided, it is likely to consider party performance in recent polls.
