Anti Cow-Slaughter Law: Hindu Outfits In Karnataka Urge Stricter Action Against Offenders
The Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Prevention of Cattle Bill was passed in the legislative council in February 2021. Offenders can be jailed for 7 years and fined up to Rs 10 Lakh
Mangaluru: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal on Friday urged the Karnataka government to strictly enforce the anti-cow slaughter law in the state. Addressing reporters, VHP regional working president MB Puranik said, "the district administration should create awareness of the law so that cattle are protected. As per the Act, stringent action should be taken against those who slaughter cows and the police should also seize the livestock from the accused," he said.
The Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Prevention of Cattle Bill was passed in the legislative council in February 2021 amid chaotic scenes as the opposition raised their voices against the bill. Congress and Janata Dal (S) raised objections to the Bill and sought a division of votes. The Bill failed to pass earlier in December when the BJP has proposed it in the legislative council.
