Kerala Gold Smuggling Case: Youth Congress workers in Kannur took out a rally demanding CM Pinarayi Vijayan's resignation in connection with the gold smuggling case

New Delhi: Youth Congress workers in Kerala's Kannur took out a rally on Monday demanding CM Pinarayi Vijayan's resignation in connection with the gold smuggling case. Police tried to stop the Congress workers from reaching the guest house as the CM was residing there. The angry protesters tried to remove barricades when police used water cannons to disperse them, said The Hindu report.

Despite using water cannons, the Congress workers refused to move and the police arrested them to remove the protesters from the spot. Those arrested were reportedly shifted to the AR camp. The Congress workers showed black flags to the Vijayan's convoy.

The Chief Minister reportedly reached Kannur on Sunday evening and on the police's request he was moved to the Government guest house in Kannur from his residence in Pinarayi.

Earlier on Saturday, Pinarayi Vijayan, amidst facing flak from the opposition in connection with the gold smuggling case, said that allegations weren't going to affect his government in any way. "We are more indebted to people now...we will not surrender before any force that stands against the interest of the country for sure," Vijayan said, as quoted by NDTV. Vijayan's comments came amid opposition demanding his resignation from the post of Chief Minister.
