Covid: Kerala Reports 292 Cases, 3 Deaths In 24 Hours Amid JN.1 Scare

The reported deaths in the state have brought the cumulative number of COVID-related fatalities in Kerala to 72,056 since the outbreak three years ago.

In the last 24 hours, Kerala recorded 292 new coronavirus cases and three deaths related to the infection. As per the information available on the Union Health Ministry website on Wednesday, the current active cases in the state have risen to 2,041. In the preceding 24-hour period until 8 AM on Tuesday, India reported a total of 341 coronavirus cases.

The reported deaths in the state have brought the cumulative number of COVID-related fatalities in Kerala to 72,056 since the outbreak three years ago.

According to ANI, "As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Kerala reported 292 new active cases of COVID-19 and 3 deaths yesterday. The total number of active cases in the state is 2041."

In the last 24 hours, 224 patients diagnosed with the infection have either recovered, been discharged, or migrated.

Consequently, the overall count for cases falling under this recovered/discharged/migrated category has reached 68,37,203.

Even as the number of cases gradually increased, state Health Minister Veena George said there was nothing to be concerned about in Kerala since the state was prepared to handle the virus infection. She said that directions have been provided to arrange for special facilities for COVID patients and ensure the availability of rooms, oxygen beds, ICU beds and ventilators in hospitals.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced the first COVID-19 death in Bengaluru on December 15. The Minister clarified that no decision has been made regarding restrictions on New Year celebrations in the capital. The Union Minister, addressing reporters, stated that a 64-year-old male passed away at Mallige Hospital in Bengaluru due to the infection.
