Bharat Jodo Effect In Karnataka Results? Congress Wins Big In The 7 Districts Rahul Gandhi Covered

Karnataka Election Results 2023: The seven districts travelled by Rahul Gandhi covered 51 out of the 224 assembly constituencies. Take a look at how the Congress fared in these seats.

Karnataka Results 2023: The Karnataka elections were still nearly seven months away when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi toured the state as part of his Bharat Jodo Yatra. He spent 21 days in Karnataka — from September 31, 2022 to October 19, 2022 — travelling a distance of 511 kilometres, covering seven districts. Rahul started his yatra from Chamarajanagar, and passed through the districts of Mysuru, Mandya, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Ballari, and Raichur, before moving on to Telangana.    

The seven districts travelled by Rahul cover 51 out of the 224 assembly constituencies. And the Congress appears to be winning at least 36 of these seats. Take a look.

1. Chamarajanagar: The district covers the 4 assembly constituencies of Hanur, Kollegal, Chamarajanagar and Gundlupet. Barring Hanur, all seats are going to Congress, according to the latest updates on the Election Commission website. Hanur seat has the Janata Dal (Secular) candidate on top of the tally. The Congress had won two of these seats in 2018. This election, the party retained Chamarajanagar, wrested Kollegal from BSP and Gundlupet from BJP, and lost Hanur to JD(S). 

2. Mysuru Piriyapatna: This district has 10 seats, and the Congress is ahead at seven of them, while two have the JD(S) and one has the BJP in the lead. The 10 seats are Krishnarajanagara (Congress wrests from JDS), Hunasuru (JDS retains), Heggadadevankote (Congress retains), Nanjangud (Congress wrests from BJP), Chamundeshwari (JDS retains), Krishnaraja (BJP retains), Chamaraja (Congress wrests from BJP), Narasimharaja (Congress retains), Varuna (Congress retains) and T Narasipur (Congress wrests from JDS).

3. Mandya: The seven constituencies in this district have the Congress leading in four, JDS in two and ‘Others’ in one seat. The 7 seats are Malavalli (Congress wrests from JDS), Maddur (Congress wrests from JDS), Melukote (Sarvodaya Karnataka Paksha wrests from JDS), Mandya (Congress wrests from JDS), Shrirangapattana (Congress wrests from JDS), Nagamangala (Congress wrests from JDS) and Krishnarajpet (JDS retains).

4. Tumakuru: There are 11 seats in this district and the Congress is ahead in eight of them. The rest of the three seats have 2 JDS and 1 BJP candidate leading. The seats are: Chikknayakanhalli (JDS wrests from BJP), Tiptur (Congress wrests from BJP), Turuvekere (JDS wrests from BJP), Kunigal (Congress retains), Tumkur City (BJP retains), Tumkur Rural (BJP wrests from JDS), Koratagere (Congress retains), Gubbi (Congress wrests from JDS), Sira (Congress wrests from JDS), Pavagada (Congress retains), Madhugiri (Congress wrests from JDS).

5.  Chitradurga: The district has 6 assembly constituencies and here is the status as per latest ECI update Molakalmuru - Congress wrests from BJP; Challakere - Congress retains; Chitradurga - Congress wrests from BJP; Hiriyur - Congress wrests from BJP; Hosadurga - Congress wrests from BJP; Holalkere – BJP retains.

6. Ballari: The prominent district, which has been a Congress stronghold, has the party leading in all five seats — Kampli (Congress retains), Siruguppa (Congress wrests from BJP), Bellary (Congress retains), Bellary City (Congress wrests from BJP) and Sandur (Congress retains).

7. Raichur: Among the seven seats in this district, the Congress is leading in 4, while BJP and JDS have their candidates ahead in two and one seats, respectively —  Raichur Rural (Congress retains), Raichur (BJP retains), Manvi (Congress wrests from JDS), Devadurga (JDS wrests from BJP), Lingsugur (BJP wrests from Congress), Sindhanur (Congress wrests from JDS), Maski (Congress retains).
