Bengaluru Clocks 7,113 New Covid Cases, Three Deaths. Positivity Rate Breaches 10% Mark

State health minister Dr Sudhakar K said that Bengaluru continues to remain the epicentre for Covid infections in Karnataka, reporting 79% of the total cases in the southern state.

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing surge in the Coronavirus cases across the country, Bengaluru on Saturday logged 7,113 fresh infections and three deaths, with the test positivity rate in the city breaching the 10% mark.

State health minister Dr Sudhakar K said that Bengaluru continues to remain the epicentre for Covid infections in Karnataka, reporting 79% of the total cases in the southern state.

According to the daily health bulletin, Karnataka on Saturday clocked 8,906 fresh Covid infections taking the total count to 30,39,958 and the daily positivity rate to 5.42%. The state also reported four deaths pushing the toll to 38,366 and the case fatality rate to 0.04%.

As many as 508 patients recovered in the last 24 hours taking the active caseload in the state to 38,507.    

Meanwhile, in the ongoing fight against the contagion, Karnataka has ramped up Covid testing to the highest levels since the onset of the pandemic, with the state having conducted 2 lakh tests yesterday, said the state health minister. Karnataka till date has conducted 5.73 crore Covid tests, added Dr Sudhakar K.

The Karnataka health minister further announced that Covid booster shots will be administered to the people above 65 years of age and the frontline workers from January 10.

Karnataka on Friday had clocked 8,449 fresh Covid cases and four deaths, according to the daily health bulletin. In the same time span, a total of 505 people recovered from the Coronavirus infection.
