Jadavpur varsity students protest at B'desh High Commission
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], Aug 6 (ANI): In solidarity with students in Bangladesh, the Jadavpur University students on Monday staged a protest in front of the Bangladesh High Commission here. Two college students in Dhaka were killed in a rash driving incident of a speeding bus on July 29 leading to huge protests.
The students of Jadavpur University raised slogans against Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and burnt her effigy.
The two students, Abdul Karim Rajib (18) and Dia Khanam Mim (17), of Dhaka's Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College came under the wheels of a bus that ploughed through a crowd in an attempt to overtake another bus.
Following the incident, a large number of students took to the streets of Dhaka demanding improved road safety and stricter enforcement of traffic laws while bringing the city to a complete standstill.
Several students have been injured in clashes with the police ever since the protests began, according to several media reports.
On Sunday, a group of students of the University of Asia Pacific was also assaulted by motorcycle-borne men near Farmgate in Dhaka. (ANI)
