Ahead Of First G20 Meeting In Guwahati, Delegation Visits Kaziranga National Park In Assam

The G20 delegates also enjoyed jeep safari in the Bagori and Kohora ranges of the World Heritage Site.

New Delhi: A G20 delegation that arrived in Assam visited the famed Kaziranga National Park on Wednesday.

On arrival, the delegates were accorded a grand welcome and taken to the Kaziranga Convention Centre in the Kohora range of the park. There they were briefed about the various initiatives and activities undertaken for the conservation of wildlife by the Kaziranga National Park authorities.   

According to Directorate of Information and Public Relation, Assam, the G20 delegates also enjoyed a jeep safari in the Bagori and Kohora ranges of the World Heritage Site.

It is to be noted that India, for the first time, is hosting the G20 summit, after assuming the presidency from Indonesia on December 1 last year, with the theme of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth One Family One Future”.

India holds the Presidency of the G20 from December 1 last year to November 30, 2023.

Notably, the G20 or Group of 20, one of the world's leading platforms for international economic cooperation, was founded in the year 1999 after the Asian financial crisis. The Group of 20 was set up as a forum for the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to discuss international economic and financial issues.

The G20 or Group of 20 comprises 19 countries and the European Union. The 19 countries include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Notably, this year's G20 summit will also be attended by nine guest countries. As part of the current G20 summit, five meetings will be held in Guwahati and Dibrugarh.

Of the five meetings, Guwahati will host the meets from February 2 to 3, and February 6 to 8, and again from March 13 to 15 and April 3 to 5, 2023. The fifth G20 meeting will be held in Dibrugarh from March 24 to 25 this year.
