Maharashtra: Second Covid-19 Wave May Hit In Jan-Feb; Govt Braces Itself, Lists Preventive Steps

A communication of the government stated that several countries in Europe are experiencing the second wave of Covid-19 at present. It is likely that we may face the second wave in January-February next year.

Maharashtra Coronavirus: Maharashtra government has said that a second wave of novel coronavirus can hit the state by the month of January-February 2021 and has issued advisory to all district and municipal corporations to strictly follow all the protocols issued for Covid-19 management. It has asked the health department to be prepared to deal with the contingency. A communication of the government stated that several countries in Europe are experiencing the second wave of Covid-19 at present. It is likely that we may face the second wave in January-February next year. The government has enumerated measures like:

• Regular testing
• Monitoring of influenza like illness
• District administrations to weekly review influenza-like illness
• Monitoring of potential super spreaders like vendors and grocers
• Hotel owners, waiters, delivery personnel, domestic assistants, transport personnel will also be monitored
• To celebrate this Diwali without firecracker

India's Covid Update: With 47,905 new coronavirus infections and 550 deaths in the past 24 hours, India's overall tally stood at 86,83,916 on Thursday as the fatality toll touched 1,28,121, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. Currently, there are 4,89,294 active cases, whereas 80,66,501 patients have been cured and discharged so far. Maharashtra worst-hit state, but Delhi’s spike is shattering all records: Though Maharashtra continued to be the worst-hit state with 17,31,833 cases till date. There are 88,070 active cases and 45,560 Covid-19 deaths. On Wednesday, Covid-19 figures shattered all records in Delhi as it reported a whopping 8,593 new cases, the highest in a day so far, and an all-time high positivity rate of 13.40 per cent.
