India remains the second-most-affected country by active and total cases, and third by fatality.  In order to review the situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a high-level virtual meeting with chief ministers and health ministers of seven most-affected states on Wednesday. The states with the highest number of coronavirus cases include Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Punjab.

The good thing is that Covid-19 testing capacity of the country has surged to over 12 lakh daily tests.

So far, 6,62,79,462 samples tested up to 22nd September for Covid-19. Of these, 9,53,683 samples were tested on Monday, says Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
As India rides the wave of very high testing, several States/UTs have demonstrated better  response with higher Tests Per Million (TPM) and commensurate lower Positivity Rate than the national average. the ministry said.

Meanwhile, in a fresh attack on China, US President Donald Trump told the United Nations General Assembly that China be held accountable for having "unleashed" Covid-19 on the world. The statement instigated Beijing to revert to the Trump accusing him of "lies" and abusing the UN platform to provoke confrontation.

China's President Xi Jinping struck a conciliatory tone in his pre-recorded virtual address to the General Assembly, calling for enhanced cooperation over the pandemic and stressing that China had no intention of fighting "either a Cold War or a hot war with any country." Globally total number of coronavirus cases stands at 31,764,198. While 23,371,496 have recovered, 974,559 have died so far. The US, the worst-hit country, 7,097,598 cases. It is followed by India, which has 5,640,496 cases, Brazil (4,595,335) and Russia (1,115,810).
