PlayStation 5 Beta Tests 1440p Support With Limited Users

PS5 beta also brings gamelists, which work just like song playlists do.

PlayStation 5 is expected to get the much-awaited 1440p video support soon, as Sony started testing the technology on a new PS5 software beta with a limited number of users. The beta access is currently limited to invited users in select countries. Sony said in a blog post that “our goal is to bring these updates to our global community later this year.” Apart from 1440p support, the beta also tests other upcoming features such as gamelists, 3D and stereo audio comparisons, new social features, and more

Sony said that if a game supports 1440p rendering, then users can experience native 1440p output on their screens. “if you’re playing a game with a higher native resolution like 4K, then you may benefit from improved anti-aliasing through supersampling down to 1440p output,” the gaming giant added.

Gamelists work just like custom playlists. You can now club games on your Game Library together as per your needs. For example, you can keep some games on a “My favourite sports game” gamelist, or decide to club all your favourite RPGs on a “My favourite RPGs” gamelist. PS5 users will be able to create 15 different gamelists, with up to 100 games per list.

Sony looks to promote its 3D audio with a new comparison feature, which lets you listen to stereo sound and 3D sound side by side and then choose your preferred setting based on your needs and hardware capabilities.

The beta test will also show your in-progress activities “prominently” at the top of the game hub. Among new social features, you can now request to share screen with party members. When you join a party and if the group already has users playing a game that you can join, you will now get a notification signalling the same, allowing you to join quickly. The beta also allows you to send stickers and voice messages in Game Base. Lastly, when you accept a friend request in the Received list, you can now see the new profile in Accepted Requests

For now PS5 beta access is only available to select users in Canada, Japan, UK, and US.
