Prince Of Persia Remake: Pune, Mumbai Studios Removed From Project; Ubisoft Montreal To Take Over
Ubisoft is yet to announce a final release date for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake.
New Delhi: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was first announced back in 2020, with an expected release date of January 2021. However, after announcing another delay to March 2021, Ubisoft eventually announced last year that the release had been delayed yet again, this time indefinitely. The remake particularly caught the attention of Indian gamers as it was announced that Ubisoft’s Pune and Mumbai studios were in charge of development. Now, Ubisoft has announced that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will be remade by Ubisoft Montreal, the same studio that first brought out the epochal action-adventure title back in 2003.
On May 3, Ubisoft announced via the official Prince of Persia Twitter handle that The Sands of Time Remake will be developed by Ubisoft Montreal, who will take over control from Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai.
Without revealing much, Ubisoft said, “This decision is an important step,” and Ubisoft Montreal will now build upon “the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai.”

Regarding the release date, Ubisoft simply added that the game will be released “when it’s ready.” Even the game’s official website is showing a ‘Coming Soon’ banner, without sharing any further details.
For the Pune and Mumbai studios, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake would have marked the first major title they led development on, having worked on other Ubisoft titles such as Just Dance and Steep. There’s no word from the company on why the Prince of Persia remake project was moved to Ubisoft Montreal.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is touted to be a complete remaster of the original action-adventure title. The game was being developed with the help of the company’s own AnvilNext engine, which was used for several Assassin’s Creed games, including Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
The remake is set to release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. There’s no word yet on the title’s next-gen release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, given AnvilNext’s compatibility with the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, it can be expected that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake should be released on all platforms.
