Janhvi Kapoor Talks About Taking Responsibility Of Parents, Says 'I Am Borderline Obsessed With My Father'
In a recent podcast, Janhvi Kapoor shared that she wants to create a “safe environment” for her father Boney Kapoor.
‘Mr. and Mrs. Mahi’, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, is set to release soon. The actors are currently busy with the promotions. In a recent podcast, Janhvi Kapoor admitted that she is dealing with the fact that her father is ageing. She shared that she would want to create a “safe environment” for her father Boney Kapoor.
According to Janhvi Kapoor, as Indians, we are taught to respect and care for our parents. She said in a chat with Beer Biceps, “I think it is our due. I don't know how it is in Western cultures but I think as Indians, there is a responsibility that we assume. I'm very proud that this has been inculcated in our culture. Ek umar ke baad humein apne maa baap ki dekh bhal karni padti hai aur karni chaiye. Wo humaare bache ban jaate hain. (After a certain age, we have to and should take care of our parents. They become our children.)”
Janhvi now feels it is their turn to support their parents. She said, “They've dedicated their whole lives to this. I've spoken about it before with my friends and my family. I think we're too hard on our parents always. Everyone's fu***ed up a little bit because of their parents. No one has it right, but they are also a little messed up because of their parents and their parent's insecurities their baggage. No one's followed like a do-it-right handbook to bring you up. So, you need to just forgive yourself, forgive them and just give them love. Be there for them. It is so important to me.”
She added, “I'm borderline obsessed with my father I think so.”
Janhvi Kapoor on Idolising Her Parents
Janhvi described that there is a shift from seeing her parents as superheroes to recognising their humanity. “I think as kids, you have this idyllic view of your parents like my mother can do no wrong, my father can do no wrong. He's Superman, she's Superwoman. It's all good. And then, when you become an adult and you start recognising that they're human - that realisation is also heartbreaking because in your head your parents can do no wrong.”
She added, “To come to terms with that realisation, I think it has been hard for me because I know they've given it their best. My way of coping with that is that my heart goes out to them.”
Speaking about Boney Kapoor, Janhvi said, “My father, he's been through a lot, he's seen a lot, he's done a lot and I just want to create a safe environment for him where it's okay for him to mess up, have fun and just think about himself.”
