UP Election 2022: Amit Shah Targets SP, BSP Over Withdrawal Of Terrorism Acts

Union home minister Amit Shah questioned the SP and BSP about the state of security in their regime and the reason behind withdrawal of UAPA and POTA in the state

New Delhi: Strengthening BJP’s pitch during assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Union home minister Amit Shah targeted the previous governments led by Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for the poor law and order situation in the state during their regime. He attacked SP and BSP for terrorism activities and accused the former ruling did away with various acts of terrorism for vote bank politics.

In an exclusive interview with Network18, senior BJP leader Amit Shah didn’t leave any opportunity to attack political rivals in UP.

Recently PM Modi during his speech in Hardoi, while referring to the 2008 Ahmedabad blast case, said 38 accused have been sentenced to death. He inferred that the BJP government has been hard on terrorists and related activities while the opposition's stance has been a rather dull one.

Highlighting the issue Amit Shah in the Network18 interview said: "Eleven such instances took place during the SP and BSP eras, when Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) cases were withdrawn.”

“What do SP and BSP have to say about security in the country? They will have to answer the public. After withdrawing UAPA and POTA who are they helping? And why? For their vote banks? Do other people do not have the right to vote? Those who are the victims don’t have a vote? This is the feeling in the whole of Uttar Pradesh,” Shah added.

He also noted many such instances during the Congress regimes, too, all over the country. Sharing the perspective of the case in Gujarat, Shah said, “Because Narendra Modi was Chief Minister (of Gujarat) at the time, this case could be resolved. There are many blast cases you can analyse. In very few, people have got justice or a judgment has even come. Police worked efficiently and came out with evidence that convinced the court. The court also appreciated the evidence it received and passed judgment. The behaviour of SP, BSP and other parties is clearly visible.”

The high-octane campaigning for the fourth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections concluded on Monday with leaders from various political parties intensifying attacks on their opponents.
