UP Election 2022: BKU’s Rakesh Tikait To Not Support Any Party, Puts Ball In Farmers’ Court

He, however, added that the farmers have to see their respective profit and loss before taking a final decision in this regard.

New Delhi: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait on Wednesday categorically stated that they would not support any political party or alliance in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

He, however, added that the farmers have to see their respective profit and loss before taking a final decision in this regard.

“The farmers have to see their own profit and loss, we do not support any party,” he said via social platform KOO.

Tikait, who has been leading the year-long protest against the three farm laws at the Delhi-UP border, said all political parties are now remembering the farmers courtesy of their agitation.

“The result of the agitation is that all political parties are today remembering the farmers,” he said.

Earlier on Sunday, BKU chief Naresh Tikait had voiced his support for the Samajwadi Party-Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) alliance in the upcoming assembly elections.

“I hope people of the state will support the candidates of this coalition,” he said at Sisauli in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, PTI reported.

The BKU chief, however, withdrew his statement later.

This comes as the BKU has emerged as an influencer, particularly in the western parts of Uttar Pradesh, in the run-up to the assembly polls.

The BKU’s support to any party in Uttar Pradesh may harm the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is eyeing a second term in power in the politically crucial state.

Voting for the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly will be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7. The counting of votes will be held on March 10.
