BJP OBC Morcha Chief On 'Quota Within Quota' Question:
Responding to demands from several opposition parties for a "quota within quota" for female OBCs in the Women's Reservation Bill, BJP OBC Morcha president K Laxman countered, stating that they should explain why the sub-quota was absent in the draft legislation brought by the previous Congress-led UPA government. Laxman claimed this was an attempt to hinder the Modi government's efforts to ensure women receive their due, as reported by PTI.
Laxman also accused Rahul Gandhi of displaying the "Congress' hostility towards the OBCs, which has been on display since the times of Nehru".
He alleged that Nehru had expressed aversion to caste-based quotas in a letter to the then chief ministers, and the report of the Kaka Kalelkar Commission gathered dust during Congress rule.
Claiming opposition during the V P Singh government's acceptance of the Mandal Commission's recommendations came from Rajiv Gandhi, Laxman further alleged that the RJD in Bihar and the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, despite speaking about OBCs, primarily worked for their own families.
According to the PTI report, Laxman demanded an explanation for the United Front government, with these parties as key allies, not considering OBC stalwart Karpoori Thakur and former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh for the Bharat Ratna.
He further said that while Jayant Chaudhary, the Rashtriya Lok Dal Chief and grandson of the ex-PM, expressed gratitude towards the Modi government for the Bharat Ratna, he faced humiliation and abuse from the Congress and its allies.
