Tripura Results 2023: Swearing-In Ceremony Likely To Take Place On March 8, Says CM Manik Saha

Tripura Elections Results 2023: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said that the swearing-in ceremony for the new government is likely to be held on March 8.

Tripura Election Results: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said that the swearing-in ceremony for the new government is likely to be held on March 8. He submitted his resignation to Governor on Friday and said that the Governor has asked him to continue till the new government is formed.

"Today I have submitted my resignation to the Governor and the Governor has asked me to continue as CM till the new government is formed. Swearing-in ceremony most likely to be held on March 8, the CM was quoted as saying by ANI.

Notably, the country will be celebrating the festival of Holi on March 8.

On Thursday, the Bharatiya Janata Party in Tripura ensured another term in office, winning 32 seats on its own. The Left Front-Congress alliance, however, failed to ebb the saffron wave as it managed to garner just 14 seats. Debutant Tipra Motha Party, led by the scion of the erstwhile Tripura kingdom's royalty, Pradyot Debbarma, bagged 13 seats.

The BJP's alliance partner in Tripura, the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura, managed to get only 1 seat. The lone IPFT winner was Sukla Charan Noatia from the Jolaibari constituency.

Soon after winning the elections, CM Manik Saha said: "I thank PM Modi, home minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda and senior leaders for their faith and confidence. Central govt's beneficiary schemes, state govt's works and party workers' hard work played an important role in the victory."

Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the scion of the erstwhile Tripura royal family, said his two-year-old party, Tipra Motha, has now become the second biggest party in Tripura after it bagged 13 seats in its debut election. The party, which has campaigned on the demand for a 'Greater Tipraland', appears to have eaten into the BJP ally IPFT's tribal support base.

"The two-year-old party has become the second biggest party in Tripura due to blessing of people. We might have moved a little backward but moving from 0-13 is big for us," ANI quoted Debbarma as saying.

Debbarma said his party would extend help to the government "as and when they need".

Earlier on Friday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangama submitted his resignation letter before Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan and put forth a claim to form the new government.

"BJP has given us its formal support. We will meet the Governor and request him to call us and invite the National People’s Party (NPP) to form the government. BJP and other political parties have given their support. We have numbers to form government," he said before meeting the Governor, as per news agency ANI.
