'RSS-BJP Alliance Is Like Poison': Kharge Rips Into Centre As He Sounds Clarion Call For United Oppn Fight

Kharge highlighted the recent arrests of Arvind Kejriwal and Hemant Soren as evidence of the threat to democracy, asserting the need for unity among the Opposition.

New Delhi: Coming down heavily on the RSS-BJP alliance, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge termed it as a "poison" that has “destroyed” the nation.

Speaking at the 'Loktantra Bachao' rally organised by the I.N.D.I.A bloc at Ramlila Maidan, Kharge urged all Opposition parties to join forces to defeat the ruling party in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, emphasising the critical nature of the polls in safeguarding democracy, the country, and the Constitution.

Kharge highlighted the recent arrests of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren as evidence of the threat to democracy, asserting the need for unity among the Opposition.

“We need to unite. Only then will we be able to fight the BJP. We won't succeed if we keep attacking and fighting each other. PM Modi believes in dictatorship and not in democracy,” Kharge stressed, urging alliance partners to set aside their differences.

He also warned that the 2024 general election would determine whether democracy would prevail or "dictatorship" would thrive under Modi's leadership, as he slammed the BJP government for denying a level playing field to Opposition parties.

"The BJP and the RSS are like poison, don't taste it. They have destroyed the country and they should not be allowed to destroy it further," Kharge said.

Kharge accused the Centre of misusing institutions to hound and harass the Opposition and topple their governments, citing instances of alleged harassment and financial penalties imposed on the Congress.

He also highlighted discrepancies in the treatment of political parties under the guise of electoral transparency, alleging scams in schemes like the Electoral Bond and PM CARES.

"What can we call this if not robbery? The scheme which BJP brings in the name of transparency turns out to be a scam. Even Electoral Bond and PM CARES were scams. The CAG exposed huge scams in many departments of the Modi government. But no one was caught, no investigation was done,” PTI quoted Kharge as saying.

"ED, IT, CBI remained silent for years. They have become allies of the NDA in the Legislative Assembly or Lok Sabha elections … They play the most important role in toppling opposition governments. The files of criminals of the ruling party and those who join BJP from other parties are closed," he added.
