'Kamal Nath Won't Fight Lok Sabha Elections, I Will': Congress Leader's Son Nakul Clears Air Around Chhindwara

Nakul Nath, addressing a gathering during a ‘Karyakarta Abhaar Sammelan’, said that he will be contesting the Chhindwara Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming elections.

Congress leader Kamal Nath’s son Nakul on Tuesday said he will be contesting the Chhindwara seat in Madhya Pradesh in the Lok Sabha 2024 elections. Addressing a gathering of Congress supporters in Chhindwara, Nakul quashed rumours about his father contesting elections and said that he would be the one fighting the elections. He also thanked the people of Chhindwara for their continued support.

Nakul Nath was addressing a gathering during a ‘Karyakarta Abhaar Sammelan’, "This time, too, I will be your candidate for Lok Sabha elections. Rumours are going around whether Kamal Nath or Nakul Nath would contest the election, I would like to make it clear that Kamal Nath won't contest the election, I will," news agency ANI quoted him as saying.

“…There is factionalism in assembly elections as there are too many [probable] candidates. But Lok Sabha polls are different. There is no factionalism in Lok Sabha polls because there is only one candidate. I will be your candidate,” he added. "You have given support, love and blessings to the Nath family for 42 years. I expect you will continue to give your support and love in future," he added further.

He added that Kamal Nath would support and guide him through his candidacy.

However, this announcement comes before the party could make an official announcement regarding its list of candidates for the upcoming general elections.

Meanwhile, Kamal Nath said that the Congress has started its preparations for the Lok Sabha elections. He added that Nakul Nath will be contesting for the elections from the Chhindwara seat.

"The Congress Party has started its preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Various kinds of rumours (referring to joining BJP) were spreaded. But now the preparation for LS elections has started. As the Congress party used to prepare for elections, it will do the same this time too," Kamal Nath said, according to ANI.

When asked about the rumours of him contesting the election he blamed the media for starting such rumours. "In response to a question asked about Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam, I had said that no one is tied to any party. But the rumours were spread", the senior leader said.

Currently, Kamal Nath is the MLA from Chhindwara, which has been a stronghold for him since he became an MP in 1980. The senior Congress leader had lost the Chhindwara seat to the BJP once in a by-election in 1997. However, regained it a year later. Kamal Nath won the seat for nine consecutive terms.
