Madhya Pradesh is due to undergo polls this year along with Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, and Telangana.
In a blow to Congress in MP, its Sachin Birla on Sunday joined the BJP in presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The 40-year-old first time MLA from Barwaha constituency in Khargone district took the membership of the saffron party during a function at the party's state office in Bhopal
He had crossed over to the BJP in October 2021 but did not give up membership of the legislature. The Congress did not expel him either. Birla won the Barwaha seat during the 2018 assembly polls due to the support of Gurjar voters and other backward communities.
