Mizoram Election Results: Lalduhoma-Led ZPM Crosses Halfway Mark Of 20 In EC Trends

Mizoram Poll Results: ECI trends show ZPM leading on 22 seats in Mizoram and CM Zoramthanag's MNF on 10.

Mizoram Elections Results: The alliance of opposition parties in Mizoram, Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), led by Lalduhoma has crossed the magic number of 20 (halfway mark) as counting progresses, according to the official trends by the Election Commission of India (ECI). To form a government in the state, a party needs 21 seats in its kitty and ZPM is already leading on 22 out of 35 seats whose trends are in on the official website of the ECI.

This is not what CM Zoramthanaga would have thought as he was anticipating a repeat of his MNF government in the state. MNF is leading on 10 seats while BJP and Congress are ahead on 2 and one seat respectively.

The battle in the northeastern hill state is three-way with the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and Congress being the main contenders. The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is also contesting the polls and is in high spirits after it clinched three of four states where counting was done on Sunday.

The BJP won in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, dethroning Congress from two states and the grand old party wrested BRS from power in Telangana.

According to ABP-CVoter exit poll, CM Zoramthanga-led Mizo National Front (MNF) may fall short of a majority but still emerge as the largest party in Mizoram. The state is expected to witness a three-way battle between the MNF, the main opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), and the Congress, even though the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in the fray.

As per the exit polls,  MNF is likely to get anywhere between 15 to 21 seats. Regional party ZNP is predicted to get 12 to 18 seats, while the Congress is projected to get 2 to 8 seats. BJP may get anywhere between 0-5 seats.
