Telangana Ex-CM KCR Gets ECI Notice For 'Vulgar' Remarks Against Congress

The ECI has asked KCR to explain his stand regarding the comments by 11 am, April 18.

The Election Commission of India has issued a notice to Bharat Rashtra Samithi supremo and former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao over his comments against the Congress party in Sircilla on April 5. The poll body has asked him to explain his stand regarding the "vulgar", "derogatory", and "objectionable" comments against the Congress by 11 am on April 18. 

The Commission said it received a complaint on April 6 from Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee Vice President G Niranjan wherein it was alleged that KCR made vulgar, derogatory and objectionable allegations against the Congress party in his press meet in Sircilla on 05.04.2024. 

The ECI also referred to a report by the District Election Officer stating the alleged obscene and threatening remarks against the party and its members. 

It pointed out the general conduct of Model Code of Conduct stating: "Criticism of other political parties, when made, shall be confined to their polices and programme, past record and work. Parties and candidates shall refrain from criticism of all aspects of private life, not connected with the public activities o the leaders or workers of other parties. Criticism of other parties or their workers based on unverified allegations or distortion shall be avoided."

The ECI also said that it had issued an order to KCR dated May 3 2019 in violation of the MCC during a public address in Karimnagar "cautioning him to be more careful and to strictly adhere to the provision of the MCC" while addressing any public rally or meetings.
