Congress Files Complaint With Lokayukta Against K’taka CM, Minister Over Medical Service Tender

Congress submitted the complaint with Lokayukta alleging that Karnataka government gave tender for emergency services, worth Rs 1,260, to a company that 'doesn't have any background in health issues'.

Congress leader Ramesh Babu on Tuesday, filed a complaint against Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, health minister K Sudhakar, and officials from the health department including the Principal Secretary over tender given for emergency medical services. The Congress leader submitted the complaint with Lokayukta alleging that the Karnataka government gave the tender for the emergency services, worth Rs 1,260, to a company that “does not have any background in health issues,” reported ANI.

“Today, I filed a complaint against the Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai, the Health Minister of Karnataka K. Sudhakar, the health department's Principal Secretary and other officers of the health department to the Lokayukta regarding a tender transaction, said Babu while speaking to reporters.

“They overlooked all the parameters & gave the tender for the emergency service of the health department of Karnataka amounting to Rs 1260 crore to a company that doesn’t have any background in health issues,” he added.

The development comes just a day before Karnatak would undergo polls for its 224-member legislative assembly.

The polls will be held on May 10 and the votes will be counted on May 13.

The high octane poll campaigning in Karnataka came to an end on Monday with a close competition between incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress.

As poll draws close, the Election Commission of India has also maximise its focus on expenditure monitoring in poll-bound Karnataka. According to an official statement released by the EC, Karnataka has witnessed a 4.5 times increase in seizures this time in comparison to the 2018 assembly elections.

Enforcement teams have made seizures totaling over Rs 375 crore in Karnataka, including cash (Rs 147 crore), liquor (Rs 84 crore), gold and silver (Rs 97 crore), freebies (Rs 24 crore), and drugs/narcotics (Rs 24 crore), the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, said.
