Haryana Election 2024: JJP And Azad Samaj Party Stitch Pre-Poll Alliance Deal, Know Seat-Sharing Details

Haryana Election 2024: The JJP and Azad Samaj Party formed an alliance in Haryana, agreeing to contest 70 and 20 seats respectively in the upcoming elections.

Haryana Election 2024: The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) led by Dushyant Chautala has formed an alliance with Chandrashekhar Azad's Azad Samaj Party (ASP). The two parties made the announcement during a joint press conference on Tuesday. Under the agreement, the JJP will contest 70 seats while the Azad Samaj Party will contest 20 seats in the upcoming elections.

Haryana Election 2024: Chandrashekhar Azad Calls Dushyant Chautala 'Future Chief Minister'

Chandrashekhar Azad, in a show of support, referred to Dushyant Chautala as the "former Deputy Chief Minister and future Chief Minister" of Haryana. Highlighting the alliance’s commitment to the state's future, Azad remarked, "We both will continue to raise the voice of farmers for the next 40-50 years. Our efforts will ensure a strong foundation for Haryana’s future, improve the income of farmers, and elevate the standard of education."

Dushyant Chautala took the opportunity to criticise the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), particularly targeting Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, whom he accused of merely making announcements without action. He emphasised that his party would not align with the BJP, stating, "I know how BJP breaks its allies." He further assured voters, "If we have the numbers, we will form a government against both the Congress and BJP. Our coalition aims to provide Haryana with a stable government."

Chandrashekhar Azad echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence that the alliance would bring about significant change in Haryana. "Times have changed, and you will see the impact in Haryana," he stated. Azad also urged supporters to prepare for a "new revolution" in the state, declaring, "When I spoke to him [Chautala], I felt that he has the desire to take Haryana forward. I believe we will strongly carry forward the fight for farmers."

"The issues are clear, employment for the youth, relief to the poor from inflation, social justice and ending privatisation, reservation in promotions, MSP, better law and order... We hope our alliance will win all 90 seats," Azad told the media.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) had announced that the Haryana Assembly polls would be conducted in a single phase on 1 October, with the results scheduled for 4 October. The BJP is eyeing a third consecutive term, while the Congress is aiming to reclaim power in the state. The JJP-Azad Samaj Party now looks to form a third front in the contest to win the 90 assembly seats in the state.

The current tenure of the Haryana Assembly is set to end on 3 November.
