Former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh's Wife Likely To Join BJP, Contest From Patiala: Sources

Captain Amarinder Singh's wife and Congress MP Preneet Kaur will join BJP tomorrow. She is likely to contest elections from Patiala as BJP candidate.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh's wife and Congress MP Preneet Kaur is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on March 13, sources told ABP News on Wednesday. According to sources, she is expected to run for election as a BJP candidate in Patiala.

Jai Inder Kaur, the daughter of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and MP Preneet Kaur, had also revealed about the political move earlier on Tuesday. She told Indian Express that her mother, Preneet Kaur, will run for office in Patiala and will soon join the BJP.

Furthermore, Kaur revealed her political trajectory, implying that her candidature could be expected within the next 2-3 years.

The announcement comes amid shifting political dynamics in Punjab.

In the interview, Kaur also expressed disappointment over her father's removal as Punjab Chief Minister by the Congress, citing a lack of communication and respect for him despite his significant contributions to the party and the state.

"The way they did it was not pleasant at all. It deeply hurt me, as well as the rest of the family. He dedicated so many years to the Congress. You can't just dismiss people like this," she told Indian Express.

She compares her family's experience to the BJP's approach, observing a sense of appreciation and respect within the new political alliance.

She joined the BJP in September 2022 after her father left the Congress, and she now serves as the state BJP's Mahila Morcha president and the only woman on the newly formed 19-member state election committee.

Responding to perceptions that royal family members are inaccessible, Kaur refuted the notion, citing her family's extensive engagement with constituents as well as her active participation in grassroots political activities since joining the BJP.
