Transgender Candidate Files Nomination Against CM Atishi For Delhi Polls: 'Govt Did Nothing For Us'

Singh is a candidate from 'Aam Janata Party' from the Kalkaji constituency where Chief Minister Atishi and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ramesh Bidhuri are also in the fray.
Filing the nomination, Singh held a copy of the Constitution in their hand and alleged the Delhi government of neglecting the community.
"The Delhi government has not taken any concrete steps for the transgender community," Singh said.
"There are neither toilets nor any other basic facilities for us. Even today we are considered untouchable in society," the transgender candidate added.
Singh had earlier contested the Lok Sabha elections held last year.
Transgenders should get respect and equal rights in the society, Singh said.

The fight is not limited to electoral politics only, rather it is a strong effort to give equal rights to every section of the society, they added.
Singh pointed out that the government has announced allowances every month for men and women but there is nothing for the third gender.
The Kalkaji assembly constituency where Rajan Singh has filed the nomination has a total of 1 lakh 94 thousand 515 voters. Of these, one lakh six thousand 893 are male, 87 thousand 617 are female and five are transgender voters.
According to the election affidavit, Rajan Singh has assets worth Rs 92.35 lakh and Rs 10,000 in cash. He has a possession of 1,300 grams of gold worth around Rs 92 lakh.
Singh has Rs 25 thousand in the bank account and belongs to Bihar and is the chairman of the National Transgender Welfare Council.
Elections to the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly will be held on February 5 and the votes will be counted on February 8.
