'Even Beggars Pay Tax, But Centre Waiving Loans Of Billionaires': Kejriwal's Fresh Attack On BJP

Arvind Kejriwal urged Delhi voters to choose between AAP's ideology of public welfare and BJP's model of funding billionaires.

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday asked the voters of Delhi to choose between his party's ideology and Bharatiya Janata Party's ideology.

Addressing a press conference, the former Delhi Chief Minister said the upcoming election is about deciding where the government money should be spent.

"This election is a contest between two ideologies. It is about deciding where the government’s money should be spent. Even when a poor person buys a matchbox, they pay GST on it. This election is about how that money should be used," said the AAP chief during the press conference.

He said there are two models from which the people need to choose as beggars also pay tax. The people need to decide where that money should be spent that is paid as tax.

He further said that there is a model where the tax money is used for public welfare and is the model adopted by AAP. The other approach is to use the taxpayers' money to grant loans to billioaires and later write them off.

"There are two approaches. One is to use public funds for the welfare of the people. The state treasury can be directed toward initiatives that benefit the masses. The other approach is to use this money to benefit a select few billionaire friends—granting them loans and later writing them off. This election is about deciding what the people want," Kejriwal said.

"The model that prioritises billionaires is the BJP model. In the past five years, their government has waived ₹10 lakh crore in loans for their close associates. For one individual, a loan of ₹46,000 crore was reduced to ₹4,500 crore," he added.

"This is your money—the taxpayers’ money. The beggar on the street pays taxes, and so does the middle class of this nation," said the AAP chief

Further attacking the BJP, Kejriwal said the saffron party will discontinue the welfare schemes currently in effect in the national capital.

"The Bharatiya Janata Party has made it clear in different ways, through the words of different leaders, that if their government is formed, if you press the lotus button, all these facilities being provided in Delhi will be stopped because this is against their model...," he said.
