Congress Faces Setback As Kisan Morcha State VP SP Bhardwaj Joins AAP Ahead Of Delhi Polls

The former Congress leader said he decided to join the AAP as he was inspired by party supremo Arvind Kejriwal's policies. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh welcomed SP Bhardwaj into the party.

In a major setback to the Congress ahead of the high-stakes Delhi Assembly elections, the party's Kisan Morcha state Vice President S.P. Bhardwaj on Thursday joined the Aam Aadmi Party.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh welcomed Bhardwaj into the party with the a party scarf and cap at the AAP headquarters. Bhardwaj has withdrawn his candidacy from Najafgarh and extended his support to AAP candidate Tarun Kumar, Singh said.

"Before the Delhi elections, the AAP family continues to grow stronger! Congress Kisan Morcha Vice President S.P. Bhardwaj has joined the Aam Aadmi Party today. He has withdrawn his candidacy and extended his support to AAP candidate Tarun Kumar. Rajya Sabha MP @SanjayAzadSln welcomed S.P. Bhardwaj into the Aam Aadmi Party," AAP announced in a post on X, sharing visuals from the press conference.

 

During the event, Singh, while welcoming the former Congress leader into AAP, said: "Today is a very special day as Congress's Kisan Morcha state vice-president S.P. Bhardwaj is joining the Aam Aadmi Party. Before Congress, he had also held several positions in the BJP. This time, he had filed his nomination from Najafgarh for the Delhi Assembly elections, but he has now withdrawn it in support of AAP candidate Tarun Yadav. I welcome him to the Aam Aadmi Party."

He further said that Bhardwaj has decided to work for the AAP after he was inspired by the policies laid down by former Delhi CM and party supremo Arvind Kejriwal. Singh also said that Bhardwaj would help AAP strengthen its hold in Najafgarh and the surrounding areas.

The former Congress leader also expressed happiness on joining the AAP and assured that he would dedicate himself to the party and work for the welfare of the people. 

"It is a matter of great fortune for me to return to my family after 12 years. I am inspired by the way Arvind Kejriwal is serving the people of Delhi and working for the city's progress. That is why I am joining the Aam Aadmi Party. I will dedicate myself wholeheartedly to working for the party and the welfare of the people," he said.

Voting to the 70-member Assembly in Delhi will be held in a single phase on February 5. The counting of votes will be done on February 8.
