The polls for 230-member Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly were held on Friday along with the second phase of polling in Chhattisgarh for the remaining 70 seats.
In Madhya Pradesh, a voter turnout of nearly 76 percent was recorded on Friday, and in Chhattisgarh, a voter turnout of 70.59 percent (provisional) was recorded in the second phase of the Chhattisgarh assembly elections for 70 constituencies. In MP, the fates of 2,533 candidates, including chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of the BJP and his predecessor and state Congress chief Kamal Nath, were sealed in Electronic Voting Machines.
The polling was marred by violence in a few places. An aide of a Congress candidate was killed after two groups clashed in Rajnagar. Prominent among those who voted early in the day included Chouhan and his family, Nath along with his family, Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Prahlad Patel, state BJP president V D Sharma and BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya.
State Home Minister Narottam Mishra, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia, Industries Minister Rajvardhan Singh Dattigaon and state CEO Anupam Rajan were also among those who cast their votes in the morning. A total of 64,626 polling stations were set up in the state.
In Chhattisgarh, a jawan of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was killed in a blast triggered by Naxalites in Gariaband district of the state when a polling team being escorted by security personnel was returning after conducting voting, they said.
Of the 70 seats, the highest turnout was recorded in Sanjari-Balod seat (Balod district) at 84.07 per cent, while the lowest voting percentage was recorded in Raipur City South- an urban constituency, at 52.11 per cent, as per the Turnout app of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
In terms of the districts, Raipur district, which has seven assembly seats, recorded a low voter turnout of 58.83 %. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's constituency Patan saw a significant turnout of 83.90 %. The second phase of polls will decide the electoral fate of political heavyweights like Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, his deputy T S Singh Deo, eight state ministers and four members of Parliament.

Re-polling ordered by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on November 21 at a booth in the Ater assembly constituency in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district.
Voting will be held at booth number 3 under polling centre number 71 at Kishupura between 7 am and 6 pm.
