Background

Tiruchirappalli: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Kumar.P from All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) won the elections by a margin of 150476 votes. The polling / voting in Tiruchirappalli constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 2 on 18 April. The major contest is between Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam#s Dr. V. Elangovan and Congress Party#s Su.thirunnavukkarasar

Tiruchirappalli 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won 37 out of the 39 parliamentary seat with 44.3 percent vote share while the Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win just 1 seats with a 5.5 percent vote share.

Out of the 29 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Tiruchirappalli, 27 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Kumar.P of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam as he defeated Anbhalagan.Mu by a margin of 150476 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate defated All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, MDMK candidate Ganesan. L attained 450907 votes and ADMK's Paranjothi. M bagged 234182 votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 89197 votes BJP candidate Arangarajan Kumaramangalam had got 377450 while INC got Adaikalaraj,L. votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated TMC(M) candidate with a difference of 11455 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Rangarajan Kumaramangalam attained 305233 votes and TMC(M) candidate Adaikalaraj.L bagged 293778 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, TMC(M) candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, TMC(M) candidate Adaikkalraj.L attained 434149 votes and INC's Gopal K bagged 169441 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated Communist Party of India candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate L. Adaikala Raj attained 414628 votes and CPM's T.K. Rangarajan bagged 204922 votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Communist Party of India candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate L.Adaikalaraj attained 429185 votes and CPM's T.K.Rengarajan bagged 259219 votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Adaikalaraj attained 337786 votes and DMK's N. Selvarasu bagged 234881 votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate had defeated Communist Party of India candidate by a margin of 73599 votes DMK candidate Selvaraju N. had got 278485 while CPM got Rangarajan T.K. votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate had defeated NCO candidate by a margin of 76045 votes CPI candidate M. Kalyanasundaram had got 276390 while NCO got Y. Venkateswara Dikshidar votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate defeated NCO candidate with a difference of 20550 votes. Here, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader M. Kalyanasundaram attained 217677 votes and NCO candidate S. P. Thangavelu bagged 197127 votes
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Communist Party of India and INC here Communist Party of India candidate defeated his INC counterpart with a difference of 2545 votes.
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Communist Party of India (Marxist) and INC here Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate defeated his INC counterpart with a difference of 9374 votes.
  • 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated CPI candidate with a difference of 41125 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader M. K. M. Abdul Salam attained 91910 votes and CPI candidate K. Ananda Nambiar bagged 50785 votes
  • 1951 Lok Sabha Elections: In India's Very First Lok Sabha Polls, Independent candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 17177 votes. Here, Independent leader E. Mathuram attained 94184 votes and INC candidate N. Halasyam bagged 77007 votes
