Amethi: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Congress President Rahul Gandhi from Indian National Congress (INC) won the elections by a margin of 107903 votes. The polling / voting in Amethi constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 5 on 6 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Smriti Irani and Congress Party#s rahul gandhi

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 71 out of the 80 parliamentary seat with 42.3 percent vote share while the Samajwadi Party managed to win just 5 seats with a 22.2 percent vote share.

Out of the 34 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, 32 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Congress President Rahul Gandhi of the Indian National Congress as he defeated Smriti Irani by a margin of 107903 votes.

• 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated Bahujan Samaj Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Rahul Gandhi attained 390179 votes and BSP's Chandra Parkash Mishra Matiyari bagged 99326 votes.
• 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Sonia Gandhi attained 418960 votes and BJP's Dr.Sanjai Singh bagged 118948 votes.
• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 23270 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Sanjay Singh attained 205025 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Captain Satish Sharma bagged 181755 votes
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 40143 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Satish Sharma attained 157868 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Raja Mohan Singh bagged 117725 votes
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Rajiv Gandhi attained 187138 votes and BJP's Ravindra Pratap bagged 75053 votes.
• 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated JD candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Rajiv Gandhi attained 271407 votes and JD's Raj Mohan Gandhi bagged 69269 votes.
• 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated Independent candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Rajiv Gandhi attained 365041 votes and IND's Maneka Gandhi bagged 50163 votes.
• 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC(I) candidate Sanjay Gandhi attained 186990 votes and JNP's Ravindra Pratap Singh bagged 58445 votes.
• 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, BLD candidate had defeated INC candidate by a margin of 75844 votes BLD candidate Ravindra Pratap Singh had got 176410 while INC got Sanjay Gandhi votes.
• 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated BJS candidate by a margin of 74977 votes INC candidate Vidya Dhar Bajpai had got 96312 while BJS got Gokul Prasad Pathak votes.
• 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and BJS here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his BJS counterpart with a difference of 3665 votes.

महात्मा गांधी के हत्यारे नाथूराम गोडसे को देशभक्त करार दिये जाने के अफसोस में तपस्या के लिए बैठीं बीजेपी नेता साध्वी प्रज्ञा सिंह ठाकुर. उन्होंने ट्वीट कर कहा, ''चुनावी प्रक्रियाओ के उपरान्त अब समय है चिंतन मनन का, इस दौरान मेरे शब्दों से समस्त देशभक्तों को यदि ठेस पहुंची है तो मैं क्षमा प्रार्थी हूँ और सार्वजनिक जीवन की मर्यादा के अंतर्गत प्रयश्चित हेतु 21 प्रहर के मौन व कठोर तपस्यारत हो रही हूं. हरिः ॐ''

क़रीब एक घंटे की मुलाक़ात के बाद अखिलेश यादव मायावती के घर से निकले. बाहर आकर अखिलेश ने मीडिया से बात नहीं की. मगर यूपी में गठबंधन की अच्छी सीटें आने की स्थिति में क्या निर्णय लिया जाएगा, इस पर बातचीत होने की बात कही जा रही है.

कोलकाता के पूर्व पुलिस आयुक्त राजीव कुमार ने सारदा चिटफंड घोटाला मामले में गिरफ्तारी से राहत के लिए सक्षम अदालत में जाने के लिये दी गई सात दिन की अवधि बढ़ाने का सोमवार को उच्चतम न्यायालय से अनुरोध किया. कुमार के वकील ने न्यायमूर्ति इंदिरा बनर्जी और न्यायमूर्ति संजीव खन्ना की एक अवकाशकालीन पीठ के समक्ष मामला तत्काल सूचीबद्ध किए जाने का अनुरोध किया.

सुहेलदेव भारतीय समाज पार्टी के अध्यक्ष और पूर्व मंत्री ओम प्रकाश राजभर ने प्रदेश सरकार से स्वयं को बर्खास्त किये जाने का स्वागत करते हुए कहा कि मुख्यमंत्री ने यह फैसला देर से लिया है. राजभर ने कहा, ‘‘हम फैसले का स्वागत करते हैं . मुख्यमंत्री जी ने यह फैसला देर से लिया है . यह निर्णय बीस दिन पहले लिया गया होता तो और अच्छा होता .’’
