The minister said that the state medical wing and students wing will be staging a protest on August 20, against NEET Exam.
Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has asked all teachers and students in the state to join the protest against NEET Exam in Tamil Nadu on August 20. He sdaid thet as per the instructions of Tamil Nadu leaders, the medical wing and students’ wing in the state is taging a protest against NEET in Tamil Nadu on August 20, 2023.
"Students wing and Medical wing, as per our leader's instructions, are having a protest on 20th August to show how NEET has affected the students of Tamil Nadu and it has started affecting the families of the students too. I request all public, students and teachers and families of the affected to take part in this protest and why we don't want NEET in Tamil Nadu and we don't want any more deaths in Tamil Nadu..." Udhyanidhi said while speaking to the media today.
"They are trying to impose Hindi through New Education Policy and DMK will object if Hindi is imposed in Tamil Nadu," he further said.
Notably, there has been a significant uproar in Tamil Nadu around the NEET exam. The demand of removing NEET from Tamil Nadu has once again gained traction following the death of a NEET aspirant in the southern state. Jagadeeswaran, a 19-year old NEET aspirant from Chrompet, Tamil Nadu died by suicide after failing to clear the NEET Exam for two consecutive years. Shockingly, after Jahadesswaran’s death, his 48-year-old father Selva Sekar also committed suicide in Chrompet. The Tamil Nadu assembly presented a bill last year which seeks scrapping of the NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) in Tamil Nadu.
“I don't know how to console Jegadeeswaran's family, friends and relatives. It is horrible that a bright student who dreamt of becoming a doctor has now joined the list of NEET suicides. I am asking all students- no one should lose their life in any situation. We can definitely remove NEET which is an obstacle to your goals. The Tamil Nadu government is working and taking legal steps towards that.” ANI quoted Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin as saying in a series of tweets.
Meanwhile, while interacting with NEET Toppers recently,Tamil Nadu governor RN Ravi said that he will never clear the bill that seeks exemption of the state from the central medical exam. “I am telling you very frankly, I will never give clearance to NEET (bill), let it be very clear. Anyway, it has gone to the President because it is a subject of Concurrent List, it is a subject which only the President is competent to give clearance to,” RN Ravi said. "Let there not be any confusion, NEET is going to stay in the country. I want my children to be competitive, to be the best in the country," he added further.
