UP: 5 Sentenced To 3 Years In Jail In Bank Recruitment Exam Fraud
The case investigated by the CBI revolved around allegations of impersonation during the clerical recruitment examination for public sector banks.
A CBI court in Uttar Pradesh handed down three years of rigorous imprisonment to five out of the six accused individuals in a 2014 case involving impersonation during a bank clerk recruitment examination. The sixth accused, who failed to appear before the court, had a non-bailable warrant issued against them, with sentencing postponed until March 21, as stated by a spokesperson for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), as reported by news agency PTI.
The Special Judicial Magistrate, CBI, Ghaziabad, found six individuals guilty, including impersonators Naveen Tanwar and Sawan Kumar, candidates Amit Singh and Ajay Pal Singh, and middlemen Sugriv Singh Gurjar and Hanumat Singh Gurjar. The case pertained to the 2014 Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) examination.
The court's decision was based on the evaluation of the evidence presented, and despite Tanwar's absence leading to the issuance of an NBW, sentencing for all the convicted individuals is scheduled for March 21.
The remaining five accused have been awarded rigorous imprisonment of three years along with aggregate fine of Rs 50,000, the spokesperson said.
The case investigated by the CBI revolved around allegations of impersonation during the clerical recruitment examination for public sector banks, conducted at the Ideal Institute of Technology, Govindpuram, Ghaziabad, on December 13, 2014.
In an operation at the Ghaziabad institute, the central agency apprehended Naveen Tanwar, who was caught fraudulently appearing and completing the IBPS examination in place of candidate Amit Singh. Similarly, Sawan Kumar was found to have appeared in the examination in place of candidate Ajay Pal Singh.
Further investigation by the CBI revealed that the Gurjar duo acted as middlemen in the conspiracy.
Evidence gathered during the investigation, including oral testimonies and documents, led to the submission of a charge sheet on March 12, 2015, against Tanwar, Kumar, Amit Singh, Ajay Pal Singh, Sugriv Singh Gurjar, and Hanumat Singh Gurjar.
The prosecution presented 22 witnesses and 28 documentary pieces of evidence, as cited by the spokesperson.
Trial proceedings commenced with the court taking cognizance against all six accused individuals on March 12, 2015, and charges were framed on September 2, 2016.
