Civil Services Exam: Top 3 Scorers Are Women. Meet Shruti Sharma, Ankita Agarwal, Gamini Singla

According to the results announced by the UPSC on Monday, Shruti Sharma, Ankita Agarwal, and Gamini Singla secured first, second, and third ranks in the civil services test 2021.

New Delhi: Shruti Sharma, Ankita Agarwal, and Gamini Singla have secured first, second, and third positions in the civil services test 2021, according to the results released by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Monday, news agency PTI reported. According to the results, a total of 685 people qualified for the coveted test.

According to the Commission, 244 of the successful candidates are from the general category, 73 from the Economically Weaker Sections, 203 from Other Backward Classes, 105 from the Scheduled Castes, and 60 from the Scheduled Tribes.

According to the Commission, three of the final qualifying candidates are women.

Sharma, who graduated with honours in History from the University of Delhi, topped the examination with history as her optional subject.

Delhi-based Sharma, a graduate of Delhi University's St. Stephen's College, said she was pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

"Credit goes to everyone who was involved in my journey especially my parents. They were extremely supportive and friends who guided me," she said.

Sharma completed her postgraduate studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and has been studying for the civil services for the past four years as a student of Jamia Millia Islamia's Residential Coaching Academy.

Agarwal, a University of Delhi graduate in economics (Hons. ), came in second place with political science and international relations as her optional subjects.

Gamini Singla, the UPSC Topper 2021 with AIR 3, is from Punjab Engineering College, PEC, Chandigarh. A student from Computer Science Engineering Department, Gamini Singla had choosen sociology as her optional subject, according to the UPSC.

While Gamini Singla basks in the glory of her triumph, her PEC professors are also revelling in the fact that their pupil is doing the institute proud. Professor Sanjeev, a teaching member of PEC Chandigarh's CSE Department, told Times Now exclusively,"Gamini was a very intelligent student. The department remembers her and we all were very confident that she will clear the exam. We are very proud of her."

According to the commission, Aishwarya Verma finished fourth, while Utkarsh Dwivedi finished fifth.

UPSC Result 2021

The top 25 candidates consist of 15 men and 10 women.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the successful candidates and encouraged those who did not pass the exam.

"Congratulations to all those who have cleared the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2021. My best wishes to these youngsters who are embarking on their administrative careers at an important time of India's development journey, when we are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav," PM Modi tweeted. 

"I fully understand the disappointment of those who couldn't clear the Civil Services Exam but I also know that these are outstanding youngsters who will make a mark in any field they pursue and make India proud. My best wishes to them," the prime minister tweeted.

The top 25 successful candidates have degrees in engineering, humanities, commerce, and medicine from prestigious universities including as IIT, AIIMS, VIT, PEC, University of Mumbai, University of Delhi, GB Pant University, and others, according to the UPSC.

According to the commission, the top 25 successful candidates chose anthropology, economics, geography, Hindi literature, history, mathematics, medical science, political science & international relations, public administration, sociology, and zoology as their optional subjects in the written (main) examination.

The Commission also recommended 25 people with benchmark impairments (seven orthopedically handicapped, five visually challenged, eight hearing impaired, and five with various disabilities).

The UPSC conducts the civil services examination in three phases each year to select officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.

On October 10th, 2021, the civil services (preliminary) test was held.

According to the UPSC, a total of 10,93,984 candidates applied for this examination, with 5,08,619 candidates taking the test.

There were 9,214 candidates who qualified to take the written (main) test in January 2022.

According to the UPSC, a total of 1,824 candidates qualified for the examination's personality test.

The candidacy of 80 candidates is tentative, and one candidate's result has been withheld.

"UPSC has a 'facilitation counter' near the examination hall on its campus. Candidates can obtain any information/clarification regarding their examinations/recruitment on the working days between 10:00 hours to 17:00 hours in person or over telephone nos. 23385271/23381125 /23098543," the Commission said.

"Marks will be available on the website within 15 days from the date of declaration of result," it said.
