New EWS Policy In Delhi: Education Minister Ashish Sood Reveals Key Details, Slams AAP’s School Model

Sood accused AAP of failing to strengthen the Government school network in Delhi during its decade-long rule.

At the ABP Live SmartEd Conclave 2025 held on Monday (June 9), Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood raised sharp questions about the city’s school infrastructure and took aim at the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) education model. Speaking at the event, he unveiled insights into the newly proposed EWS (Economically Weaker Section) system in Delhi and criticised the Kejriwal-led Government’s approach to public schooling.

Sood Accuses AAP Of Weakening Government Schools

Ashish Sood accused AAP of failing to strengthen the Government school network in Delhi during its decade-long rule. "While the number of private schools has increased, Government schools have actually declined under AAP’s governance," he said. He questioned the contrast between this ground reality and AAP’s global claims of having the ‘best education model in the world’.

Focus On Transparency In New EWS System

Shedding light on Delhi’s new EWS policy, Sood said the system will prioritise transparency and fairness. “We have taken all necessary measures to ensure that only the most deserving candidates are selected through a proper process,” he noted.

He also responded to questions about electricity prices, clarifying that the DRC (Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission) will decide whether tariffs will be revised.
